Memories that can kill and one relief

Jet sits in the corner, heads on the table around her
Waits for her father to be done, done dancing with his animal
She can hear the snorts, sees the smoke, and listens to the animal howling
She sits alone, while the others do the tango, tango with the monster

Her father takes a hit, sits for seconds, before taking a line as well
He sits up, laughs, body shaking, shaking with the control of the monster
People around her, around him, popping pills, snorting lines, taking hits
She sits alone, not disturbed, until she sees it, sees the monster, sees the animals

Her father is surrounded; animals crouched beside as he takes his third line
The wolf howls with joy, hyena laughs with satisfaction, eagle calls to the others to follow his lead
Her dad laughs, he seems to be enjoying himself she says to herself, until she realizes,
The monster is whispering to her father, controlling his every move, and looks to herself

He senses her clean soul, powder untouched to her nose, pills not yet swallowing back the pain
The animals stop encouraging the other students in the room, follow the monsters look
She’s suddenly is right beside the monster, a match to its flame
She sees the line, the snowy white powder, and suddenly thinks back to a moment, a happy time

Her mother holds her, but she shoves away, 10 years too old to have her mom hugging her
She darts as her father starts yelling in the house, hatred filling the cold winter air
Her mother runs after her, when standing in the middle of the road, her mother motions towards her
A brown bag, lunch, which she had forgotten inside
The memory flickers away, her mind trying to block the rest, the pain
The powder calls to her, re-connects her to her mother, unconditional love
She takes the line, takes it all in, not leaving a single speck on the table
Suddenly, the pain is at ease, and her mind goes back to the wintery day

Rebel runs through her mind, she takes the bag, tells her mother she hates her
Druggie calls for his wife, Jet stares blankly at him, yells f*** you and walks away
Outraged mom grabs her jacket sleeve, and the 15 year old shoves her away, hatred
An oncoming car hits her only real parent, dead instantly, ‘I hate you’ ringing in her ears

Jet comes back to reality, her father holding her, happy she’s willing to dance with him
She shrugs his arm off of her, realizing that he’s the reason her mother is dead, pain, agony
If he hadn’t of been hooked on the monster, her mother would be by her side, rehab for him
He’s the reason she feels pain every day, every second,

Jet starts to dance with the monster more, the animals her only friends
The pain became enduring, the heartaches became thrills with the monster
Her dad even danced with her at the same time, bonding, happier
Until one night, Jet had too much pain, so she danced the entire night

The monster looks over her father’s shoulders, peers over the ground box
The monsters feet moving, ready to dance, ready to dance with jets father,
Feeling the emotion, feeling the pain
Jets father went home alone, well not quiet alone, the monster is always by his side
