Like the Radiating Sun - Chapter 2
How am I supposed to be happy, when all I ever wanted comes with a price...
Eve finished writing in her notebook and set it down beside her. A sigh escaped her dry lips as she thought about the day ahead. She felt nervous and she knew if she didn't get adopted now, she would be in this place forever. The place she was talking about was the "house" she lived in. Eight kids lived there, along with three adults.
"Eve, breakfast is ready." she heard the caretaker, Libby, say. Eve sighed and walked upstairs. Her black hair falling in her pale face. She blew it away and walked around the small table towards the white counter. Quickly, she grabbed a piece of bacon and poured herself some water. Eve never really talked to people in the house and no one talked to her. She felt to much like an outcast and a burden to people.
Quickly, she walked back downstairs to her small, half empty room and turned on her stereo. The sound filled the room and she quickly turned it down, just to where she could barely hear it, but enough to make out the lyrics. After eating her piece of bacon and drinking her water, she set the cup on the small, wooden, worn out dresser and sat on the bed. She mouthed the lyrics to a favourite song of hers.
Home was it's name.
"This house is not a home.." she quietly sang. Eve remembered how Libby was surprised when all Eve asked for Christmas was a couple CD's and a pair of headphones. Even then, Eve felt to much like a burden and didn't come out of her room for a couple days after that.
The CD's she asked for consisted only of a couple of Three Days Grace CD's,Three Days Grace and One-X, and one Beatles CD, which was the compilation CD. Everyday, she would write in her thick notebook and listen to music. She poured her feelings into this notebook because she felt it was the only thing she could truly confide in.

"Eve, you need to come upstairs to meet this couple." Libby said in a pleading tone. A couple had come to see some children today, in hopes to find one to take home and care for. Instead of going upstairs to meet the two, Eve had convinced herself that no one really wanted her and that there was no reason in even going up.
"Don't make me drag you up there." Libby said, a hint of warning in her voice.
"What's the point in going up, they wouldn't care about a thing like me." Eve murmured, her voice shaky. A lump in her throat formed slowly as she tried to hold back tears. She wouldn't do it, she.... couldn't do it.
Libby noticed this and wrapped her arms around Eve's skinny, shaking form.
"Don't cry, Girlie. It'll be okay.." Libby cooed. Girlie was Libby's nickname for Eve. Ever since she came came to the house. Eve held back the tears and pulled away from Libby slowly.
"Okay, this is the last time I'll go up.." she whispered. Libby smiled, gratitude haunting her expression. Libby stood, opening the door and walking out, holding the door open for Eve. Slowly but surely, Eve walked out of the room and trudged up the stairs.
Before walking fully into the room, she stood at the corner and waited for her blonde haired caretaker. As soon as Libby came up the stairs, Eve walked into the room, waving and smiling at the couple sitting on the couch. Although she wanted to hear what they had to say, she walked into the hallway, pretending to have to use the bathroom.
"Okay, so, the girl that just walked out here was Eve Aldaine." Libby said, sitting on the opposite couch and smiling at the couple.
"So, what's she like?" the man asked out of curiosity.
Libby sighed. She dreaded this part of the conversation.
"Well," Libby began, "Eve is a very, very shy person, but she is probably one of the most creative and intelligent people you will ever meet. She speaks two different languages and she taught herself how to play the piano and the guitar. She is very, very self-efficient and her grades are excellent."
The couple smiled.
"On the other hand," Libby paused for a second, " Eve is, well, she.. She feels like an outcast and a... burden, which is what she's told me, but that's the only thing I've ever got her to tell me. She doesn't like to talk to people and really all she does is write in her notebook.."
Libby looked at the couple. Their expression was blank.
"Could you excuse us for a second? We'll have to talk this over.." The woman said, getting up and walking into the other room.
Libby sighed, if they didn't take her, Eve would be devastated... Libby really didn't want to hear what the couple had to say. She already knew what they were going to say. 'No.' The word ran through her mind, over and over again.
Just then the couple walked back into the room.
"We've decided."
