So you came back for more huh? Great. Good to see you.
Yes. Today is the big day. The record is finally released! It's a great feeling. The one piece of art that myself, Brad, Neil and Barry, spent the last year writing, recording, and piecing together has finally hit the shelves for all of you to check out. If you're a fan of Three Days Grace, which I assume you are, seeing as though you've made it this far into the website, I think you'll like this record. Actually even if you're not a fan of Three Days Grace, and you're only reading this because someone is holding a gun to your head, you'll still like the record. For us, it's a versatile, melodic, painful look at the last three years of our lives. It's got some of the heaviest songs and we've ever written, and it's also got some of the lightest simplistic stuff we've ever written. That being said,
it would be too predictable for me to focus this whole tour diary only on "One X", so I won't. I'm going to spend the time that I have with you right now, filling you in on some things that have happened over the last while.
The last week or so has been pretty hectic. We had a chance to get to New York City, my favorite city in the U.S.A, last weekend. The s***ty thing though, was that we had absolutely no time to do anything except press. Lots of interviews for T.V, radio, satellite radio, internet, etc..., but no time to just hang out, or take in the city, which I always love to do anytime I'm in N.Y. Don't get me wrong, I like to do interviews and talk to people about the new record, and where I came from, and how we started as a band, and how we got our name, and what my favorite color is, and where I was born, and if my parents were supportive, and when I first started playing the guitar, and how Barry became a part of the band, and what we do on the bus for fun, and what kind of gear we use on stage, and whether we like playing small or big shows, and what's our favorite city to play in, and what's the craziest thing a fan's ever done, and...sorry.....I'll stop there. You get the picture. I do like doing interviews, but sometimes you're not able to check out any of the city that you're in, because you're too busy. But that being said, you know what? I've got no complaints. Honestly. In a world full of people who would die to be famous, or just play music for a living, I've won a lottery. I'm really lucky to be doing what I do, so, like I said, no complaints. Anyway, back to New York:
We tour, like most bands, in a bus. And of course, with a bus, comes a driver. We've been pretty blessed with having great drivers over the years. Until now. Just to respect his identity, I'm gonna refer to him as "Ernie". Now, Ernie tends to get moody. One minute he'll be your closest, best buddy, and the next, he'll look like he's about to strangle you with a mic cable. Anyway, while we in New York City, the bus was parked outside of the Nokia Theater. (where we were performing that night) Some of the guys in the band and crew wanted to stay in N.Y until about 2am or so, do get some partying in, and some wanted to get on the bus early, and didn't really care when we left. So, not knowing exactly what time we were going to leave, our tour manager told Ernie to come to the bus at about 11pm, after we were finished performing. When Ernie finally made his way back to the bus at 11pm, and then found out we were leaving at 2am, he basically snapped. He demanded to our tour manager that he would be paid for two nights pay, because he was there early. Anyway, needless to say our tour manager was not willing to take s*** from Ernie, and in turn, he snapped as well. To make a long story short, if it's not too late, Ernie was fired, and that was it. It But believe me, it did not make for a good night's sleep in the bus that night. That's one thing that can sometimes suck. If you piss off your driver, or, if he's in a bad mood or something, he can drive like a maniac, and keep you, and your nerves, awake all night. But that's not where it ends my friend, oh no. There's more. Much more....
As we're continuing down the highway, later that evening, some of us in bed, some of us watching movies in the back lounge, some of us sitting in the jump seat having a smoke, we get pulled over by the cops. New York State's finest, I guess you could say. Here's the thing. When you've got 10 guys living in a bus, there's bound to be things that you don't want the cops to find, or see for that matter., so for the brief couple of minutes that we had before the cops made their way to the bus, it was a mad scramble to get rid of anything that might jeopardize our touring career in America.
The cops make their way up to the driver's side window, and explain to "Ernie" that a few minutes earlier some guys in a band, that had stopped at a gas station, stole a life-size cardboard "Budweiser Girl"...."Ernie" explained to the cops that it actually wasn't us, and that it must've been the other band that was traveling with us. Here's what happened: For a lot of this tour, we've traveled with our good friends "Hurt", meaning that our drivers decide to ride together, and stop together on the way to the next town. As we made a stop at a gas station that night, the guys from Hurt decided that they wanted the life-size "Bud Girl" that was sitting by the door of the place., so they took it. The gas station called the cops and explained that a band was just there, and took off with their prized Bud Girl. In turn, minutes later, the cops pull us over thinking that we're the one's who stole the thing. We explained to the cops that it wasn't us, and thankfully, they didn't decide to take a stroll through our bus just to be sure. Anyway, no one really got in any trouble, and it made for some excitement that night as well. The guys from Hurt felt terrible about what happened, and ended up making peace with us, by giving us a "care" package, full of smokes, a giant zippo lighter, a flask full of booze, a dvd, and cigarette holder...Thanks guys. All of it's come in handy.
So, what else...well, we just played a killer show in Kansas City, Missouri. It was called "Rockfest", and there was a surprising thirty thousand people packed in to see bands like us, Buckcherry, Shinedown, and Staind. It was probably one of the biggest shows that we've ever played in the U.S, and it was a show that I'll never forget. We also had a chance to hang out with lots of our fans at the F.YE tent, to sign autographs and take pictures with them. It was a great time, and as soon as we get the chance to go back to Kansas City, we'll be there.
As long as I'm on the topic of playing shows, we also just did a headlining show in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the legendary "Pierre's". It was our first show in Ft. Wayne, it was nearly sold-out, which we were stoked about. The fans were awesome, and the people at Pierre's completely took care of us, as I'm pretty sure they're known for, among bands and tour managers in the business. Thanks for that. We'll be back to Ft. Wayne as soon as we can.
Well, we're just pulling into Huntsville Alabama to play our final show with Staind tomorrow night., so I'm gonna sign off. Most of us are gonna spend the day today doing some shopping, eating and laundry and stuff. I'm going to make my way to a local record shop, and try to buy "One X", just for fun. Just to keep you posted, we'll be performing on Craig Ferguson on Friday night, so check that out. Also, we'll be on CDUSA at some point over the next week or so, so keep your eyes open for that as well.
Thanks again for checking in with me on my third diary, the day of the release of "One X". Like I said earlier, go get the record. I know you'll like it.
So we'll talk again when I come back for Entry #4, so until then remember:
You may lose in the long run, but until then,
Make sure you set a pretty mean pace.
Cheers,
Adam.
